Founded in 2016, the Synapse Life Science Consortium represents the formal partnership of Hamilton’s key anchor institutions, each with a key stake in the economic prosperity of the city, employing ~25,000 individuals across the cluster in both public and private organizations. Our founding members represent the strength and breadth of the life sciences ecosystem in Hamilton.

CITY OF HAMILTON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: The central point of contact for business assistance, Hamilton EcDev services are geared to serve new start-up companies, corporate relocations, and the expansion and retention of existing business. HAMILTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Established in 1845, the Hamilton Chamber is the definitive “Voice of Hamilton Business”. Representing over 1000 members and 75,000 employees, it champions the interests of ethical, free enterprise by effectively engaging business, community, and government leaders in the promotion of the long-term economic prosperity of our region. HAMILTON HEALTH SCIENCES: HHS is a family of seven unique hospitals, a cancer centre and an urgent care centre, serving more than 2.3 million residents of Hamilton and south central Ontario, Canada. Hamilton Health Sciences is the second largest hospital group in Ontario, and with a staff of approximately 11,000, the hospital is the largest employer in the Hamilton region. INNOVATION FACTORY: A not-for-profit whose mission is to strengthen Greater Hamilton’s next generation of job and wealth creation by helping:  Entrepreneurs bring new ideas to life and to market; Small/Medium Enterprises (SMEs) get to the next level; and, build a dynamic culture and a community of innovation in Hamilton.  Innovation Factory offers workshops, programming, one-on-one mentoring along with access to funding, we help startups commercialize their ideas and small/medium enterprises innovate within their organizations.   Innovation Factory is a not-for-profit Regional Innovation Centre funded by the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs and located in Hamilton, Ontario since 2011. McMaster Innovation Park is an important part of the innovative ecosystem in Hamilton by supporting startups, business, research and offering collaborative space for each sector to co-locate, connect and commercialize; a place to transform ideas from vision to commercial reality. mcmasterMcMASTER UNIVERSITY: A medical-doctoral, research-intensive university, McMaster is dedicated to teaching, learning and service. A pioneer in problem-based approach to learning, known around the world as “the McMaster model“, McMaster is home to more than 29 research centres and institutes focused on medicine and healthcare. The university is co-educational, and has over 25,000 undergraduate and over 4,000 post-graduate students, taught by 1,400 academic staff and supported by 6,500 administrative staff. JOSEPH’S HEALTHCARE, HAMILTON: The largest acute care hospital and only academic and research centre in the St. Joseph’s Health System, employing with more than 4,000 staff, 700 physicians and 600 volunteers. St. Joseph’s offers integrated health services and internationally recognized programs, focused on providing dynamic research, revolutionary methods in health sciences education, and the highest standard of clinical care.
