CREATE was founded to support research and innovation at Hamilton Health Sciences. Our multidisciplinary team is made up of specialists in health systems, data engineering, data science, software engineering and interoperability. Our mission is to partner with scientists and innovators to invent the future of health care.

Data team
Our data team focuses on applied machine learning and artificial intelligence, as well as managing high volume, high velocity, high variability data. Our data scientists are skilled in a range of machine learning approaches, including deep learning, for variety of applications, including risk prediction, image recognition and natural language processing. Our data team partners with researchers interested in incorporating machine learning techniques into their research to provide support with grant writing,
study design, data engineering, model development and manuscript preparation.

Digital team
Our digital team specializes in the design, development and deployment of clinical applications. Our solutions architects are experienced in deploying large-scale software solutions in both Canada and the developing world and are experts in health care interoperability standards to ensure our solutions can be integrated with other digital systems. The team is continuously developing a reusable software library for core application components, such as authentication services, that allows them to rapidly
develop new applications and keep development costs low for our partners.

Data products
One of the unique aspects of CREATE is the ability to bring together our data and digital teams to develop fully formed data products. Data scientists typically lack the software engineering experience to develop a promising predictive model into a product that can be deployed in the real world. By building a team that can work across the full lifecycle of a data product – from engineering of raw data to model building to software development – we are positioned to not only support novel research, but to support its translation into practice via a deployable data product.
