Prior to launching the cluster report survey, an environmental scan of the life science activity in the Hamilton and
surrounding regions was conducted. Organizations that matched the criteria of a ‘Hamilton-operated life science
organization’ were contacted to complete a short survey. The criteria included any organization with staff located in
Hamilton, with activities that either directly (e.g. for-profit company, research centres, hospitals, etc.) or indirectly (e.g.,
professional services, specialized capital, accelerators, etc.) contribute to Hamilton’s life science ecosystem.
A total of 203 organizations matched this criterion, of which 154 had readily available contact information. These
organizations were sent a brief survey that covered basic organizational, financial, employee, and innovation data, to
which a 55% response rate was achieved. Three main question sets were created based on the organization completing
the survey. The three types of organizations and question sets, along with aggregated data from the survey can be found
in the following table:
