Presented by Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) at the Annual LSO Awards Gala, the Community Impact Award recognizes individuals or organizations who have significantly advanced the sector through advocacy, promotion, and collaboration.
Muggah was recognized for his leadership in fostering collaboration within the Hamilton ecosystem and beyond. Over the past eight years with the Synapse Consortium, he has been a driving force in building bridges across hospitals, research institutions, government, industry, and investors.
“Under his leadership, Synapse has become an invaluable resource,” shared David Carter, Chair of the Synapse Life Science Consortium advisory board and CEO at Innovation Factory. “Alex, is a true super-connector and a vital asset to Ontario’s life sciences ecosystem. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”
Muggah also serves as the VP of Life Sciences at Innovation Factory, a business accelerator and founding partner of the Consortium where he has helped shape programs that support the next generation of life science innovators, and build a robust pipeline for future growth. He has been pivotal in launching initiatives such as SOPHIE (Southern Ontario Pharmaceutical & Health Innovation Ecosystem), HEALTHI (Health Ecosystem to Accelerate and Leverage Trials of Health Innovation Program), and CAMEDA (Canadian Medtech Alliance)—programs that have already supported over 150 companies by connecting them with critical infrastructure, expertise, and facilities needed to scale and grow.
“This award is not just about me, it reflects the collective work of so many passionate individuals and organizations in our ecosystem,” said Muggah. “I’m privileged to play a role in connecting and supporting the amazing work happening across Hamilton and Ontario.”
The LSO Awards Gala, held at the Automotive Building at Exhibition Place in Toronto, brought together leaders and innovators from across the life sciences community to celebrate the sector’s accomplishments.
