Restoring Independence After Stroke with IRegained Inc.

A recap of the April Monthly Hamilton Health Check-up with IRegained Inc.

Each month, the Synapse Life Science Consortium hosts a virtual session to bring the life science community together to share updates, explore collaboration opportunities, and discuss the development and deployment of health innovations, called the Monthly Hamilton Health Check-up.

The April session featured IRegained Inc., a medtech company rethinking how stroke survivors regain hand function. Their neuro-rehabilitation system is designed to help patients regain independence through precise, user-led therapy rooted in neuroscience. Supported through Innovation Factory’s CAMEDA (Canadian Medtech Alliance) program, IRegained’s work is setting a new standard for how we approach motor recovery in the aftermath of stroke and brain trauma.

From research to real-world results

Vineet Johnson, Founder & CEO, brings decades of experience in neuroscience, and neuro-rehabilitation, and Samir Sahoo, COO brings 17+ years of experience in medical device development, technology commercialization, business development and marketing to IRegained. Their approach is deep-rooted in science and validated by patient and clinician feedback.

The MyHand® System supports a wide range of users—from children to athletes—by offering custom grip positioning, adjustable resistance (from 1 gram to 10 pounds), and tailored functional tasks like lifting a mug or opening a jar. Real-time feedback helps patients see their progress on-screen, reinforcing even the smallest improvements in strength or movement.

IRegained has conducted several clinical studies demonstrating that their system can meaningfully improve hand function—even for stroke survivors 10–15 years post-injury. With regulatory approvals in Canada, the U.S., Singapore, and soon India, the company has transitioned from R&D to revenue, with a strong foundation for growth.

Commercialization and Global Expansion

Since launching in December 2024, IRegained has generated over $250,000 in revenue and is on track to surpass a million dollars by the end of 2025. The company is seeing strong sales momentum—particularly in the U.S.—and is actively expanding into high-demand markets across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.

To support its next stage of growth, IRegained is seeking capital and strategic partnerships to scale manufacturing, boost sales, and expand market access. “Our goal is to build a solid foundation that positions the company for future merger/acquisition (M&A) or initial public offering (IPO) opportunities,” shared Johnson. “We’re helping patients recover not just mobility, but dignity—and that’s what drives us.”

IRegained’s success highlights the strength of Ontario’s innovation ecosystem—from small-town research to global commercialization. With the support of programs like CAMEDA and partners across the province, they are showing that even the most complex rehabilitation challenges can be met with smart, compassionate design.
